Caregiver Standards & Screening

Tata Homecare is committed to connecting families with professional, reliable caregivers. We emphasize open communication, respectful support, and clear expectations within our non-medical scope of practice.

Screening & Onboarding

Our caregiver onboarding process is designed to help ensure quality and reliability. Screening may include:

  • Background checks and identity verification
  • Reference checks from previous employers or clients
  • Interview and assessment to understand experience and fit
  • Role-appropriate onboarding focused on non-medical home care responsibilities

We strive to maintain high standards while recognizing that every caregiver's background and experience may vary. Our screening processes are designed to align with our commitment to quality non-medical care.

Training & Expectations (Non-Medical Focus)

Caregivers are expected to provide respectful, professional support within a non-medical framework. Key expectations include:

  • Respectful Communication: Treating clients and families with dignity, patience, and kindness
  • Routine Support: Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support
  • Safety Awareness: Being alert to potential safety concerns in the home environment (non-medical observation)
  • Documentation & Communication: Maintaining service notes and updates for family members and care coordinators regarding routines, preferences, and any observations
  • Companionship: Providing meaningful social interaction, conversation, and emotional support
  • Household Assistance: Light housekeeping, meal preparation, and supporting clients' daily routines

All caregiver activities are non-medical in nature. Training focuses on practical support, communication, and safety awareness rather than clinical skills.

Communication & Family Updates

We believe that open communication between families, caregivers, and our care coordinators is essential for quality care. Here's how we support communication:

Sharing Routines & Preferences

Families are encouraged to share detailed information about their loved one's routines, preferences, dietary needs, and daily schedules. This information helps caregivers provide personalized, consistent support.

Regular Updates

Caregivers may provide updates to families about daily activities, meals, social interactions, and general well-being. These updates are observational and non-clinical in nature.

Issue Escalation

If a caregiver observes anything concerning or if families have questions or concerns, these matters are escalated to our care coordinators. Our coordinators work with families to address concerns, adjust care plans as needed, and ensure continuity of quality support.

For medical concerns, families should always consult with their loved one's healthcare provider or call 911 in emergencies.

What Caregivers Do NOT Do

To ensure clarity and safety, it's important to understand what our caregivers are not trained or authorized to do:

  • Diagnose or Treat Medical Conditions: Our caregivers are not medical professionals and cannot diagnose illnesses, prescribe treatments, or provide medical advice.
  • Administer Medications: Caregivers do not administer medications. Medication reminders may be provided as part of a care plan (non-medical reminders only), but caregivers do not handle, measure, or administer medications.
  • Perform Skilled Nursing Procedures: This includes wound care, catheter care, injections, IV administration, tube feedings, or any procedure requiring a licensed nurse.
  • Provide Emergency Response: Caregivers are not equipped to handle medical emergencies. For emergencies, call 911 immediately.
  • Provide Therapy Services: Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy require licensed therapists and are outside our scope.
  • Make Medical Decisions: All healthcare decisions should be made by the client, their family, and their licensed healthcare providers.

Our caregivers provide valuable non-medical support that complements—but does not replace—medical care from licensed healthcare professionals.

We provide non-medical home care only. We do not diagnose or treat medical conditions.

We do not provide emergency services. In case of emergency, call 911.
